Facing the Giants

Some pictures from a recent pick-up game at our school's gym. Needless to say, the game had some intense players who attracted a small crowd. I grabbed our camera and snapped a few shots of the action.

(C.J. Mahaney calling the play in the backcourt)

(John MacArthur posting up on Greg Gibson. Look out, Greg! He'll spin inside and take it to the rack!)

(C.J. finds a passing lane and drops a dime to Thabiti Anyabwile down low in the paint)

(Thabiti off the glass)

(C.J.'s tenacious defense)

(Todd Thomas, Boyce College alum, watches in awe as C.J. spots up from downtown)

(Dr. MacArthur leading an impromptu discussion of eschatology)

(Mahaney and MacArthur laugh after Thomas asks if they will autograph his basketball shoes.... Maybe next time, Todd.)

Gentlemen: Many thanks for your contributions to the work of the gospel, for being such wonderful role models for the generation of young Christian men in the church, and for being real, accessible, and such good sports!

A truley once in a lifetime experience! It was a blessing to see McCarthur and Mahaney's "genuine" affection for each other just while being around them a short bit!!

I need to show this to Dave! :)

Hey, thanks for having us on your linkage; we feel S-P-E-C-I-A-L!

(I know, if it weren't for Makana, we wouldn't rate. People keep telling us, "It's all about Makana now!" :)

GREAT pictures! This is GREAT! I'm with Tony -- I just couldn't picture it when I heard the rumor. And I thought I had a great story! Has Thabiti found your blog yet? I'm sure he'd appreciate the action shots! :)

Hi Scott! Long time no see. I clicked here from Josh Harris' site to see photos of the game and suddenly saw the blog was yours! Congrats on getting married! You must be down at Southern for seminary - hope it's going well.

The Stats:

MacArthur-- 33 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds in 60 minutes of play. Went home with the Chevrolet Player of the Game award.

Mahaney-- 23 points, 12 assists, 12 rebounds, 5 steals in 60 minutes of play.

Anyabwile-- 5 points, 2 assists, 10 rebounds in 20 minutes of play (with two subs picking up his slack).

My question is this: how did the youngest one in the group get to be the most out of shape?!

Great pics,
Thabiti

Great stuff here! Thanks for sharing.

It's gotta be the shoes.

White men CAN jump!

For a playoff run, the Mavericks could use a big man who can work the glass.

I think "Anyabwile" would look pretty good across the back of a Mavs jersey.

Plus, he's a great Christian man!
