The Flood

Have you heard? We had a flood in our house this week. Well...sort of. I was in Minnesota for a baby shower for my sister-in-law, and Scott's dad and brother were here in Ohio with Scott, helping with some repairs on our house. Sunday morning Scott's dad woke up to the sound of running water. He thought it was Scott taking a shower, but then he got up and realized that no one was in the bathroom. When he walked into the bathroom and opened the cabinet doors under the sink, he got a face full of water. He immediately shut off the water supply line (or lines?) to stop the leak, but still heard the sound of running water...in the lower level. I guess then he woke up Scott and they tried to do their best to stop and clean up the water downstairs. Scott said it was a bit surreal to see water pouring out of our dining room ceiling, all over the table, and covering the kitchen & dining room floors.

We have had fans and dehumidifiers in our house all week to try to dry out the floors, ceiling, and walls. Most of the damage was to the dining room ceiling, one of the walls, and the floor. The walls and floor that got wet upstairs are now dry, and I don't think they will require replacing.

A view of the damage - the cleaning/drying company had to rip out a portion of the ceiling and wall because it was so wet. I imagine the entire dining room ceiling will be replaced, eventually.

I'm actually quite thankful for several things related to what happened:

1 - I was not in town when this happened. I think I would have freaked out and been a bit traumatized by the whole event, had I been there.

2 - Scott's dad was at our house when it happened. This same thing happened in Scott's parents' house just two months ago...they're just now recovering from all the renovations and mess. But, since he had already been through something like this first-hand, he was uniquely suited to help Scott in a way that I never would have been able to!

3 - I believe in a Sovereign God. Isn't it wonderful(and I do mean that in every sense of the word - truly "wonder"-ful) and encouraging to know that everything happens for a reason? Sure, it feels like we've taken a step back in the home improvement department, but I am completely at peace knowing that this is what the Lord has for us right now.

Anywho...we'll keep you updated as things progress!
